At Maiden Lane Dental we provide 2 different techniques to whiten teeth. For one, we utilize the tray whitening system and two we use the ZOOM method.
Teeth Whitening Tray System
This teeth-whitening system involves wearing a mouth-guard-like tray filled with a whitening gel for several weeks. The exact duration depends on the severity of discoloration and the level of whiteness desired. The system works in the following way: We make plastic bleaching trays that fit the patient’s teeth (both upper and lower) exactly. Whenever the patient wants to wear the trays, he or she fills them with a whitening gel and places them over his or her teeth. The trays should be worn for a prescribed number of hours during the day or overnight.
Zoom In-office Whitening
This is the fastest way to make your teeth white and it is also the most expensive. It involves applying Zoom hydrogen peroxide whitening gel on the teeth using the Zoom Advanced Power Chairside Lamp. This device accelerates the bleaching process, causing the hydrogen peroxide to break down. This enables oxygen to enter the enamel and bleach the stained surface. Only the stain is removed; the structure of the tooth remains unchanged. The procedure begins with covering the lips and gums. Then the Zoom whitening gel is applied directly to the teeth. The gel is left on for 15 minutes with the Zoom light directly on them. The process is repeated three times, so the total procedure lasts about 45 minutes. At the end of the procedure, we apply a fluoride paste or gel that reduces sensitivity.
