As we continue to live in the computer era, digital x-rays are quickly becoming adopted by a large percentage of the dental industry as dentists transition to the digital dental x-ray systems. Instead of the traditional photographic film, digital radiography has become the new form of x-ray imaging.
A digital x-ray allows the dentist to take an image of the targeted area of the tooth or teeth and put it into an imaging program. Within this imaging program, there are a number of tools that will allow the dentist to take a very close look at the teeth and surrounding structures with amazing accuracy. Because the system lets the doctor control the exposure and size of each image, the immediate detection of disease is greater. The image quality far surpasses the traditional films and enables small imperfections to be found that might be otherwise missed on films.
At Maiden Lane Dental we pride ourselves on the accuracy of our digital x-ray system. We have the ability to share the images with our patients in a much shorter time than film. As an added benefit to our patients, the digital x-ray also provides less exposure with over 80% less radiation than a standard x-ray. This is due to the fact that the digital version of the x-ray is much more sensitive to this radiation and has been specifically designed with the patient in mind.
